The binding style on Kirsty's show was longstitch. For getting started I'd highly recommend a book by Alisha Golden called Expressive Handmade books

Here are a few bookbinding tutorials I've made

Linen thread is available from Ebay and is ideal for bookbinding as it is strong, buy a uncoloured version and you can use your inks to recolour it to match your project.
