I've been looking for more info on the metal shim (also called a Cuttlehug) and it appears they are made by Cheery Lynn & MFT specifically for Cuttlebug users of their dies because the Cuttlebug has problems with very intricate dies due to the variable pressure the rollers exert. They are available in 2 sizes, Hilda did you buy the large or the small?

I have only seen the one size Rukhshana, mine is 8" x 5.5" (20 x 14.5 cm). I have been using it in my Bigshot, which is a very "loose" machine and find this shim very useful, as you may have gathered!!!

Default metal shim NOT recommended with Grand Calibur

I just had the fololowng from Paula at CraftsULOVe about using the metal shim in the Grand Calibur:

"...the metal adapter plate working in the Grand Calibur, I have heard back from Cheery Lyn and they do not recommend using the plate in this machine due to the fragility of the machine and its weak gears."

After reading this thread I bought one of these Cheery Lynn metal shims (it is the same size as the Cuttlebug Plates). WOW I am seriously impressed with it - not only does the cutting seem much improved but it also makes a huge difference to the embossing too

Thanks Beanie for the head-up on the Grand Calibur.

Lynn ♥

That would be the large size plate. Apparently there are 2 sizes for the 'bug, 1 for the Big Shot & 1 for the Big Shot Pro.

I'm off to investigate as this sounds like a good investment. I find most things cut quite well in my Big Shot, but a few of my doily type dies don't always cut that evenly, so this might help.

I've also noticed that putting them through cutting side up makes a difference - I can't see why it would but it definitely does!
